The Role

Oxfam is committed to tackling gender discrimination in all its forms and promoting women’s rights. The crux of this exciting role is to provide thought leadership on gender justice and advocacy on gender in the region, building networks and alliances and ensuring Oxfam can recognise and address gender inequality to ensure that women are able to participate in public life, taking into account the different impacts of conflict on women and men across all our programme areas in the Middle East and North Africa.

The Gender & Advocacy Manager will work as part of a dynamic and exciting team. They will be directly responsible for managing three staff in the Gender and Influencing team of the Regional Gender Justice Programme (RGJP). In addition, they will be responsible for ensuring that the RGJP develops and implements sound gender and influencing work through project management and knowledge brokering, ensuring that our work is aligned to GJ work implemented by Oxfam’s country offices in Middle East and North Africa as well as to Oxfam’s GJ MENA Strategy.

To be successful in this role you will have:

Proven expertise on gender mainstreaming and gender justice, including development and/or humanitarian programmes; experience of building alliances, networking around gender issues and delivering impactful advocacy on women’s rights; solid knowledge and understanding of global frameworks such as CEDAW and UNCSR 1325 and how to operationalise these for women in the Middle East experience in the MENA region; experience in managing people and key relationships and strong leadership skills.

About the MECIS Region

The Middle East and Commonwealth of Independent States (MECIS) region implements and manages programmes in Yemen, Occupied Palestinian Territories, Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Jordan, Russia, Tajikistan, Armenia, and Georgia.

Programmes within the MECIS region reflect Oxfam’s approach to work across the globe. We support self-reliance, not dependency, and to complement our work on the ground we strive to secure lasting change through our campaigning.

This is a fixed-term contract until 31 March 2017. Further continuation of the role is dependent on resourcing needs and funding.

We are flexible regarding the location of the role, either Beirut or Amman.
