Job description
Generic responsibilities:
- Strengthen NRC's response to prioritised country protection issues within the country and internationally
- Provide timely and context specific information to internal and external stakeholders
- Support and train partner and programme staff to mainstream protection and do-no-harm into their projects and activities and respond to prioritised advocacy and protection concerns
- Play an active and strategic role in the humanitarian community to strengthen the protection response in accordance with the NRC country strategy
- Specific responsibilities
- Support partner and programme staff in incorporating protection into all aspects of NRC’s programme activities
- Ensure the provision of high quality and analysis on the humanitarian situation.
- Position NRC as an effective spokesperson on protection and humanitarian principles and initiate, coordinate and implement protection activities in cooperation with programme staff
- Support the Area Managers to ensure that programme staff identify and respond to prioritised protection concerns
Qualifications
Generic professional competencies:
- Minimum 5 years of experience from working as a Protection Adviser/Manager in a humanitarian/recovery context
- Professional knowledge of humanitarian and protection principles
- Experience from working in complex and volatile contexts
- Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities
- Knowledge about own leadership skills/profile
- Fluency in English, both written and verbal
Context/ specific skills, knowledge and experience:
- Knowledge of the refugee law and asylum and protection systems
- Solid understanding of international and EU policy-making processes relating to migration and asylum procedures
- Knowledge of Myanmar languages an asset
- Experience with emergency programme start-up, exit or similar
- Documented/proven results related to the position’s responsibilities, particularly in consortium working, coordination and networking
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Flexible, creative and with a good sense of humour
- Ability to work under pressure, independently and with limited supervision
- Ability to inspire and motivate
- Valid driver’s license

We offer
- Contract period: 12 months
- Salary/benefits: According to NRC’s general directions
- Duty Station: Sittwe, North West Myanmar with 30% travel
- This is an unaccompanied post/non family duty station, with shared housing/accomodation of moderate standard.
