Position: Child Protection Program Manager

Reports to: Head of Rakhine Response Program

Location: Based in Sittwe, Rakhine State with frequent travel to Myebon

Duration: 6 months (with possibility of extension)

Position Summary

As Child Protection Program Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing and monitoring all child protection activities as part of Relief International’s program in Myebon Township. You will provide guidance on child protection activities in two IDP camps, as well as design and implement awareness and capacity building activities for the surrounding township. You will strengthen the child protection structure within the camps in consultation with camp management and volunteers. You will manage a team of 5-6 national staff and build their capacity to carry out the program activities independently.

Position duties and responsibilities:

  • Oversee delivery of the project objectives, including:
    • Monitor ongoing activities in the Child Friendly Spaces, carried out by camp-based incentive workers, youth facilitators, and/or RI national staff
    • Train and supervise a Case Management Officer who will follow up on individual cases of child abuse, neglect, separation, trafficking, etc.
    • Lead the CP team’s efforts to raise awareness of child protection issues in the host community, and to build the capacity of local authorities to respond to children’s needs
    • Integrate Child Friendly Space programming into local schools
    • Implement programming aimed at youth, particularly out-of-school youth
    • Train parents on improved parenting techniques to prevent instances of child abuse and/or neglect
    • Maintain youth and children’s group activities to further engage IDP children outside of school and time at the Children Friendly Space
  • Conduct regular visits to the field office project sites to coordinate with field staff and/or monitor activities with the donor.
  • Support the timely delivery of program activities (for example, monitoring against log frames, individual performance management work plans).
  • Ensure written reports to the donor are of the highest quality.
  • Represent Relief International in relevant Clusters and Sectors in Sittwe.
  • Improve/strengthen coordination of Relief International’s work with the relevant ministries, sectors and other protection agencies.
  • Provide information and advice to other sectors on ways to integrate child protection in more programs.
  • Ensure recognized international best practices and Relief International policies are applied in work with children.
  • Ensure program products and lessons learned are maintained within the Relief International country program.
  • Identify learning and training opportunities for staff and partners and work as a mentor and role model for less experienced staff.
  • Build staff capacities on child protection in emergencies.
  • Backstop other program managers or Head of Rakhine Response, as necessary.

Requirements:

  • University degree in social work, sociology, law, or other relevant field
  • 3-5 years of experience in child protection programming
  • Experience in project/program management, preferably in a humanitarian context
  • Experience training/supervising national staff preferred
  • Experience in case management
  • Fluency in spoken and written English
  • Willingness to work in a challenging environment

Desired qualifications:

  • Previous experience working in Myanmar/Southeast Asia
  • Previous experience working on UNICEF programs
  • Knowledge of CPIMS
