Your challenge
As the Partnership and Business Development Advisor you are responsible for
• Proactively leading the identification of strategic partnerships with institutional and other donors and development/fundraising opportunities in the Middle East region;
• Build and maintain regional partnerships with those that have the most potential for collaboration on achieving shared goals and objectives and joint resource mobilisation/fund-raising plus enhancing program implementation and scaling up;
• In collaboration with the Regional Leadership Team and the Regional Technical Advisors, lead the development of regional level and multi country concept notes and project proposals;
• Coordinating, reporting, administration and compliance for regional-level grants;
• Support War Child Country Offices with the development of concept notes and project proposals at country level;
• Lead in identifying and developing Regional tools, templates etc. and support War Child’s Head Office Programme and Grant Management Team to develop organisational-level tools and templates;
• Leading the development of WC Middle East teams’ capacity on fundraising, donors’ compliance and grant management;
• Representing WC in regional networking events linked with the core tasks of the position.
Position within the organisation
The Partnership and Business Development Advisor is part of Middle East Regional team and reports to the Regional Representative. The Partnership and Business Development Advisor works in close coordination with the Country Representatives and is a shared resource for the War Child Middle East Region Country teams. The Partnership and Business Development Advisor has functional links with the Programme and Grant Management Department in WC Global Office in Amsterdam and in particular with the Grant Management Advisor for the Middle East region. There is no management responsibility required for this position.
Your profile
• At least 4 years of field experience in humanitarian or development work;
• Minimum of 4 years work experience in the area of fundraising with institutional donors and grant and partnership management in the Middle East region;
• Knowledge of and experience in humanitarian programmes in the Middle East, including the response to the Syrian crisis;
• Knowledge of and demonstrated experience on partnerships with at least 2 of the following donors: European Commission, ECHO, DFID, USG (including USAID) and UN agencies. Additional experience with other donors such as SIDA, SDC and GAC is desirable;
• Familiarity with key actors in the Middle East Region and demonstrated experience in developing, building and maintain strategic partnerships with these actors;
• Proven track record in design and writing of winning technical programs responding to grant solicitations in a limited amount of time; experience with technical programs in child protection, education and or mental health psychosocial support an advantage;
• Experience in competency and capacity building, including coaching of country teams and partners on grant compliance;
• Excellent communication and writing skills in English, proficiency in Arabic is desirable;
• Excellent relation building skills, diplomatic skills and capacity in building and maintaining networks;
• Strategic thinking and ability to think out of the box in a challenging and ever changing context;
• Excellent organizational skills and an eye for detail;
• Ability to work under pressure and to meet deadlines;
• Result-oriented and determined;
• Proactive and able to work independently with minimal supervision;
• University degree in management, development/ international studies or related field;
• Willing and able to travel in various countries in the Middle East up 50% of the time;
• Available at short notice for deployment at the onset of any humanitarian crisis to support fund-raising and other needs.
The organisation
WCH has been working in the Middle East since 2008 on psychosocial support, child protection and education programmes for vulnerable children. WCH is currently working in Lebanon and oPt, this position will be based in one of the two Country Offices or in Jordan. Frequent travel within the region is essential.
