Myanmar: Deputy Medical Coordinator - Myanmar

As a deputy medical coordinator (MedCo)-operations in Yangon- you will support the medical coordinator and the Deputy HoM in the overall development and implementation of the medical strategy and medical programming from an operational perspective for MSF’s projects in Myanmar.

Your job

Your work as a deputy MedCo will be focused on an operational level for the four projects in Myanmar and in close collaboration with the Medco, Dep Hom and the Technical Deputy Medco. Broadly you will provide support in planning, designing, coaching and coordinating the implementation of the overall operational medical content, strategies, activities and resources in order to facilitate quality programming for patients and their communities. You will provide support in guaranteeing the appropriate implementation and management of all operational-medical aspects of the projects of the mission. You will also represent MSF before third parties, and ensure that its public image is positive and aligns with the needs of the mission. More specifically, some tasks you will complete include: ensuring regular contact and effective negotiation with all third parties; participate in defining and implementing an appropriate health policy framework; coach, train, and motivate the teams in an effective and efficient manner. In the case the medical coordinator is not available, you will fully assume all of his responsibilities.

Your station is located in Yangon, Myanmar, where the current focus of the medical programs in Myanmar is on STI/HIV/AIDS care, tuberculosis( including DR-TB), Hep C treatment, reproductive health and primary health care as well as preparedness for emergency response (to disease outbreaks, natural disasters and displacement of populations). MSF maintains projects in Shan, Yangon and Kachin and Rakhine state. MSF-OCA currently has around 27 international and over 1000 national staff working in its programs here. The mission also covers a broad geographical spread with many clinic sites across 4 states.

Requirements for Deputy Medical Coordinator

  • Degree in medicine or other paramedical studies.
  • A minimum of 2 years relevant post-qualification work experience in comparable position with a similar level of responsibility and accountability
  • A minimum of 2 years working in MSF or other NGOs in developing countries or emergency settings
  • Field experience within 2 different settings
  • Fluency in English
  • Experience in training, coaching and supervision, excellent communication and negotiation skills
  • Knowledge of key international public health issues and clinical topics relevant to MSF (eg HIV, malaria)
  • Ability to cope with stress and to organize and prioritize workload
  • Ability to work in an international team
  • Competencies: Networking and representation skills, analytical thinking, and people development
  • Willingness to work in an unstable and insecure environment
  • Availability of 12 months
  • Computer literacy is required : WORD and Excel
  • Able to start as soon as possible

Assets

  • A specialization in tropic medicine or a degree in Public Health.
  • 18 – 24 months of field experience
  • Computer literacy in Epi-info and FUCHIA
  • Familiarity with tropical and infectious diseases
  • Knowledge of key international public health issues and clinical topics (relevant to MSF)
  • A good command of Burmese
