Organization: Human Appeal
Country: Myanmar
Closing date: 30 Jun 2017

Human Appeal is a non-profit organisation working across the globe to strengthen humanity’s fight against poverty, social injustice and natural disaster. Through the provision of immediate relief and establishment of self-sustaining development programmes, we aim to invest in real, effective solutions.

By establishing firm and loyal grass root relationships with local, national and international partners we are able to access some of the hardest to reach places in the world, at the most vulnerable of times. This means that we can help those people that most other organisations are unable to reach.

Human Appeal believes that establishing stable health care, education and income generation programmes, paves the way for empowered, self-serving communities. We also recognise that the provision of food, medical aid and emergency shelter in times of humanitarian crises is essential for the immediate preservation of life. As such, we value the importance of a multidimensional aid approach, and therefore dedicate our time respectively between emergency relief and long term development.

About the Project

The overall goal of the proposed2 year project is to reduce maternal and neonatal mortality across 10 targeted villages of Maungdaw Township, northern Rakhine State, Myanmar. Through this project we will improve community-level maternal health behaviour and birthing practices for 10,000women of Reproductive Age (WRA) who will be given health awareness sessions including advice on pregnancy, labour and delivery, danger signs related to these processes, as well as clean birthing practices.

The project aims to build the capacity of both the state and non-state sector stakeholders. Auxiliary midwives will be recruited as part of the project to work alongside existing health workers and health assistants, and support will be provided to the existing government health structures in Maungdaw Township. Various levels of training will be provided to traditional birthing attendants (TBAs), auxiliary midwives and all health staff to improve the medical-based skill set in the target area.

We will be implementing this project together with our local implementing partner based inSittwe, Rakhine State.
