Christian Aid has been working in Lebanon for over 30 years, and has been responding to the Syria refugee crisis there since 2012. At the heart of this vision is the transformation of the lives of people living in poverty, empowering them to have a brighter future. We are looking for a dynamic and highly motivated person to support Christian Aid’s programme in Lebanon, which ranges from humanitarian response to the Syria Crisis to more long-term development projects throughout the country.

This role is part of Christian Aid’s Syria, Iraq, Lebanon country programme team, within the Middle East team, and will be managed by the Country Programme Manager Syria, Iraq, Lebanon position based in London.

Applicants must have good knowledge of relief and development work in Lebanon. They should have practical knowledge of project management and experience of working in partnership with non-governmental organizations. The role will include working closely with the Programme Officer in London and local partners to ensure delivery of high quality projects and support to local partners, managing current Christian Aid relationships on the ground, and networking and engaging with other stakeholders, including donors.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Timely, efficient and effective delivery of Christian Aid projects

  • Providing on-going support to local partners, including with monitoring and evaluation, project assessments, collecting baseline data and support in market studies

  • Supporting with proposal development and project reporting, including financial reporting

  • Update context and conflict analysis to inform overall programming and participate in strategic planning

  • Lead the planning and facilitation (including logistical and translation assistance) of Christian Aid international staff visits to Lebanon

  • Representing Christian Aid externally, building relationships with donors and other INGOs.

Skills and qualifications:

  • Degree or equivalent in a relevant technical discipline

  • Experience of project cycle management, including monitoring and evaluation

  • Previous experience of developing proposals and reporting to institutional donors

  • Strong financial management skills, including budget development, and donor compliance

  • Proficiency in spoken and written English and Arabic

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills

  • Experience working in GBV and/or livelihoods programming (desirable)

Applicants must have the right to work in Lebanon.

The Consultant is expected to start in November 2017 for an initial period of 12 months, with the possibility of extension. They will be Beirut-based with regular travel in Lebanon. The Consultant is expected to work five days per week, 20-22 days per month, for a fee of $160 per day. Christian Aid will also provide health insurance based on receipts, up to a maximum of $200 per month and provisions for paid annual leave and sickness leave within the 12 months.
