The role:
Aktis Strategy has a strong portfolio of conflict and governance related projects across the Middle East, addressing issues at the heart of the region’s cross-cutting conflicts. Our regional team operates out of offices across the Region, supported by global technical expertise addressing our client’s highest priority security and development concerns. We are now looking for a Regional Director (RD) to take on responsibility for the strategic, programmatic and operational direction of our work across the Middle East. This role involves developing new business and ensuring our work is delivered to the highest quality, and would suit a dynamic, entrepreneurial individual with the ability to lead delivery of solutions to some of the region’s most critical challenges.
The Regional Director will be based in Beirut or Amman with regular travel to other offices in the region as well as to Head Office in London and other global locations as required.
The role has three major responsibilities:
1.Regional Business Development: develop and implement a strategy for expansion into new country or thematic markets, and oversee the resources needed to achieve the strategy, as well as building a network of clients and partners across the region.
2.Ensuring Quality of Delivery: be responsible for overall quality of programme design and implementation to ensure consistent delivery to high standards, working closely with country teams and assuming a senior technical advisory role on strategic projects across the region, as well as drawing in global technical expertise from across Aktis as required.
3.Strategic and Operations Management: oversee management of Aktis’ operations in the region by supervising Country Offices in Iraq, Lebanon, Turkey and Jordan, bringing the offices together to share resources, lessons learned, programming best practices and region-wide trends.
Requirements:
- Senior management experience in business development, consulting, project leadership and delivery;
- Strong strategic marketing expertise, with experience developing and communicating value propositions and comparative advantages to expand the business portfolio in an international development context;
- Proven expertise in international development in the areas of security, justice, governance, conflict management and peacebuilding;
- Substantial experience in project management, risk management, project quality assurance or related consulting areas;
- Dynamic and results oriented leadership of dispersed, multidisciplinary teams, with a strong track record of direct personnel management;
- High levels of analytical, written and oral communication skills in English;
- French and/or Arabic are an advantage.
The successful candidate should have intimate knowledge of the political and social context of the Middle East, and a wide network of senior contacts in client organisations and departments, both in donor capitals and in project regions, with the proven ability to understand and help shape client requirements. The ideal candidate will have a high level of technical knowledge in conflict programming, including policy development, political economy analysis, and methods and tools for ensuring conflict sensitivity and gender equality in fragile and conflict-affected states. Moreover, experience in international policy experience with the UK government, US, EU, other European bilateral donors and leading multilateral organisations.
