FOR EVERY CHILD, A Chance...

The overall objective of the consultancy is to provide translation services to the UNICEF Lebanon, supporting various programmes.

The consultancy will provide high quality translation on technically nuanced subject matter, as required, for a period of 11.5 months up to 31st December 2018.

UNICEFworks with a wide range of partners and interlocutors across the three primary languages in Lebanon: Arabic, French and English.UNICEF regularly requires translation services for work plans, frameworks, contracts, procedures, research papers, evaluations, assessment reports, reviews and other official documents. Translation is needed for the sake of formality, diplomacy and ease of use with Government and other stakeholders. Ministry officials at all levels expect documents to be translated to Arabic in most cases.

HOW CAN YOU MAKE A DIFERENCE?

You will support UNICEF by:

  • Providing written translation of documents to/from English, French and Arabic as required
  • Providing oral translation of spoken word to/from English, French and Arabic as required
  • Maintaining a cumulative lexicon of words and phrases relating to UNICEF programmatic areas, such as Education, Child Protection
  • Incorporating feedback or edits from UNICEF in translated documents as requested
  • Ensuring assignment deadlines are met (minimum rate 5 pages per day where a page comprises 250 words)
  • DELIVERABLES AND SCEDULES:

    Deliverables will vary depending on the volume of work and type of translation request related to the implementation of the UNICEF Programme.

    Monthly payments will be linked to the actual number of pages translated and paid accordingly upon certification by the consultancy manager. The consultancy manager will ensure that deliverables are well documented for reference and remuneration purposes.

    TO QUALIFY AS A CHAMPION, YOU WILL HAVE...

  • A Master’s degree in languages, linguistics, translation or related fields. A lower-level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
  • A Minimum five years’ professional experience in written translation to/from English and Arabic. Additional experience in interpretation will be considered an asset.
  • An Excellent proficiency in written and spoken English and Arabic. Knowledge of French is an asset.
  • Strong English and Arabic typing skills with proven ability to produce high standard deliverables in both languages.
  • The Ability to work and deliver outputs independently with minimum supervision
  • Proven knowledge of child protection lexicon
  • Previous experience with UNICEF or other UN agency in Lebanon is an asset
