Myanmar: Senior EU Aid Volunteer Disaster Risk Reduction, Myanmar

Description

The project “**EU Aid Volunteers Involvement for Increasing People-Centred Humanitarian Response capacity”**, led by Alianza por la Solidaridad** aims to boost the humanitarian aid sector's capacity to provide needs based humanitarian aid in disaster prone and disaster affected areas. Four EU organisations from Italy, Greece, Hungary and Spain will work together with 16 organisations from Latin America and the Caribbean, Africa, Middle East and North African countries, and Asia in different activities, all participating in humanitarian actions.

For the present vacancy, ActionAid Hellas will act as sending organisation and ActionAid Myanmar will be the hosting organisation. None of them are faith-based organisations.

Tasks

• Support the Disaster Risk Reduction team’s projects with risk sensitive village/ ward/ township resilience plan including Gender sensitive preparedness and response risk and vulnerability assessment and mapping, and fragility and conflict analysis
• Provide strategic leadership and guidance to Resilience and Livelihoods Programme management operations through employing a HRBA(Human Rights Based Approach) approach
• Coordinate with external research agency for urban assessment of wards in Yangon
• Provide input for the development of urban resilience awareness strategy development for Yangon
• Support Urban Volunteer Capacity building on community level awareness campaign and the development of resilience plan
• Provide technical on earthquake preparedness and gender sensitive disaster preparedness and response for Resilience Program
• Support the Resilience Programme and project team in capacity building and programme development, and project cycle management.
• Coordinate with the different support functions units of AAM to ensure effective management of the project and deliverables.
• Support for the overall improvement of programme quality, incorporating new learning and ensuring the achievement of the desired impact.
• Manage and support the assessment and research studies proposed in the projects related to DRR, climate resilience sustainable agriculture and livelihoods.

Other tasks• Draft and publish articles describing volunteer's experience in the field and keeping active in social networks;
• Gather audiovisual materials to be used in public awareness activities in the volunteer's hosting community and/or local community in Europe;
• In coordination with the NGOs partner of the project, organize and execute a public awareness activity in the hosting country and once back in Europe.

Required competences

• Completion of higher education, preferably a Masters Degree in Development Studies or related fields
• Sound knowledge and experiences in project cycle management, including handling of budgets.
• At least 6 and above years working experience in Resilience, DRR, Climate Resilient Sustainable • Agriculture, and alternative livelihoods
• Excellent ability on writing proposals/reports, verbal and written communication in English.
• Knowledge of budgeting, planning and keeping track of expenditures.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, facilitation, communication, negotiation, networking and knowledge of working through partnerships.
• Gender sensitive and responsive.


How to apply:

The candidate for EU Aid Volunteers must be a citizen of the EU or a third country national who is a long-term resident in an EU Member State, and must have a minimum age of 18 years.

Only applicants available for in-presence training from 20/7/2018 to 4/8/2108 will be eligible.

  1. Download and complete the self-assessment questionnaire (Excel) and Europass CV (Word) that you will find attached to the vacancy announcement. You will need these when you apply.

  2. Click on 'How to Apply' to apply directly with the sending organisation in charge of the project. You will be required to fill in an application form and send it to the sending organisation along with the self-assessment questionnaire, EuroPass CV and a motivation letter.

  3. The sending organisation will arrange the selection process following the timetable set out in the vacancy announcement.

  4. A mandatory two-week training course is part of the selection process. Candidates selected for this training will be required to take part in online preparatory sessions before attending the training.
