The Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue (HD) is a private diplomacy organisation founded on the principles of humanity, impartiality and independence. Its mission is to help prevent, mitigate, and resolve armed conflict through dialogue and mediation. We are currently looking for an intern for our Myanmar country office, starting as soon as possible.

The successful candidate will work for a minimum of four months, assisting the country team on HD’s project on communal conflict in Myanmar. The intern will be based in HD’s Yangon office, but should be prepared to travel to other parts of Myanmar as needed.

Responsibilities include:

  • Conducting research and drafting reports and analysis on communal conflict in coordination with the country team.
  • Assisting the country team with organisation of activities both in Yangon and in the field, including potential travel to the field.
  • Monitoring English-language media and disseminating regular reports and situation analyses to the country team.
  • Contributing to regular reporting requirements to donors and other stakeholders.
  • Representing HD at events and meetings in Yangon and building relationships with Government, civil society, and business actors.
  • Supporting the country team in other duties where necessary.

The ideal candidate will meet the following criteria:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant field, e.g. political science, conflict studies, international relations, public policy, international development.
  • Previous experience conducting qualitative research; experience living and working in Myanmar and/or Southeast Asia a plus.
  • Excellent writing and political analytical skills, including prior research or reporting experience.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills and ability to work in a fast-paced office environment *Be self-motivated and able to work on multiple tasks with minimum supervision but also a team player.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills, ideally with prior experience of working in a cross-cultural team.
  • Fluent written and oral English; ability in Myanmar or another Asian language an asset.
  • Good IT skills, including proficiency with Microsoft office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

HD is able to provide a modest stipend to cover living costs.
