The role

We are currently looking for Health & Nutrition Thematic Advisor to be based in Yangon, Myanmar.

Role Purpose

The Health & Nutrition Thematic Advisor plays a leading role in determining the strategic direction, development and quality of Save the Children's health & nutrition programming in Myanmar. The position works closely with a range of health, nutrition and other Save the Children colleagues in developing thematic strategies, designing and securing funding for new programmes, ensuring quality implementation, and producing and utilising robust evidence for programme learning and advocacy purposes. S/he will lead on the development of strong external relations in the fields of health and nutrition, representing Save the Children Myanmar with a range of external organisations.

Qualifications and experience

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Post-graduate degree in public health and / or nutrition - medical qualification preferred;

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

  • At least 8 years of international public health and nutrition programme experience, including senior level technical leadership, representation and policy work in a developing country context;
  • Demonstrated experience of building effective working relationships with government partners, UN agencies, bilateral and multilateral donors, INGOs, local organisations and other partners;
  • Proven knowledge and expertise in key health and nutrition technical areas, including community health; RMNCH; malaria prevention & control; IYCF; CMAM; SUN; health systems and health systems strengthening; SBCC; and WASH;
  • Demonstrated experience of successful project design, proposal writing and budget development;
  • Experience of quality improvement processes and Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL) systems;
  • Experience in conducting or contributing to operations and formative research, including study design, protocol and questionnaire development, data analysis and interpretation, and dissemination and use of findings;
  • Strong policy analysis and policy engagement experience.
  • Strong analytical and writing skills;
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills including influencing, negotiation and coaching;
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in politicised and multi-cultural settings with a wide variety of stakeholders, including in conflict affected areas;
  • Proven ability to manage a complex and demanding workload;
  • Excellent spoken and written English;
  • Good computer skills (MS Office, SPSS/STATA, ENA, etc.);
  • Commitment to and understanding of Save the Children's aims, values and principles;
  • Willingness /ability to undertake travel to remote field locations with basic living conditions

Contract length: 2 years, renewable
