Lebanon: LHIF Advocacy & Communications Coordinator

We are looking for a highly qualified candidate who has the skills to engage in our organization as a LHIF Advocacy & Communications Coordinator.

Who are we?

The Lebanon Humanitarian INGO Forum (LHIF) is an independent forum of international NGOs who are working to address the needs of vulnerable individuals, families and communities throughout Lebanon. LHIF provides a platform for members to advocate for and address key issues of common interest, more effectively engage in response coordination and leadership mechanisms, and help ensure humanitarian space is maintained, with the aim of achieving a protective environment that better identifies and responds to the full spectrum of needs and the rights of the most vulnerable persons affected by the crisis in Lebanon. LHIF was founded in October 2012, established a full-time Secretariat in October 2013, and currently has 32 members. LHIF is administratively hosted by the Danish Refugee Council and funded by ECHO. Duties

• Stay abreast of political developments in Lebanon and the Syria Crisis more broadly, in particular as pertains to refugees and the mixed humanitarian/development policy context, informing LHIF Country Coordinator, Steering Committee, and members where relevant.

• Responsible for developing, updating, and implementing LHIF advocacy strategies, under the direction of the LHIF Country Coordinator and in collaboration with the LHIF membership. Develop a periodical review and feedback of the implementation of LHIF advocacy activities.

• Advise on, contribute to and coordinate the development of LHIF positions, briefings, research papers, policy analysis, etc.

• Liaise with external advocacy partners, including Crisis Action, the SIRF Advocacy Working Group, and advocacy focal points from other NGO for a in the region to identify advocacy and lobby opportunities for LHIF.

• Coordinate the collection, analysis and presentation of data/evidence to support LHIF advocacy, working closely with members and relevant external stakeholders.

• Coordinate and monitor advocacy messages and initiatives to ensure impact and that LHIF external advocacy is in line with good humanitarian and development principles.

• Provide leadership to the LHIF Advocacy Focal Group (AFG). Convene AFG meetings on a monthly basis, keep member advocacy focal points informed of developments, and keep abreast of member advocacy activities (and opportunities for collaboration).

• Develop a calendar of upcoming advocacy opportunities and initiatives.

• Together with the Country Coordinator, ensure effective and regular communication of LHIF activities, messages and positions both internally to/among members and externally to the wider humanitarian community.

• Working with the LHIF National Officer and local consultants, lead on the development and implementation of tools and campaigns to communicate LHIF messages to key external stakeholders (e.g., the Government of Lebanon, national civil society, local media, and international media, public).

• Review, update, implement, and report on LHIF’s internal and external communications strategies.

• Recruit and manage consultants as necessary to support advocacy and communications work

• Chair LHIF Advocacy Focal Group

• Significantly contribute to donor reporting and proposal development for LHIF

• Deputize the LHIF Country Coordinator as necessary

About you

To be successful in this role you must have:

• Advanced university degree in Public Policy/Administration, Development, or a related field

• Relevant work experience in policy analysis, advocacy strategy, communications, and/or research

• Demonstrated capacity to develop and implement advocacy and communications strategies with clear theories of change

• Fluency in English, with superb verbal communication and writing skills

• Prior experience working with a national or international humanitarian NGO

• Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office

Desirable

• Prior experience coordinating a large number of diverse actors

• Information management and design experience/skills

• Arabic and French language skills

We offer

An interesting job in one of the best NGO’s in the world. DRC will offer the successful applicant a contract till 31st of December 2016, renewable dependent on both funding and performance. You must be available to start work from March 2016 and be willing and able to work in Beirut.
