Oxfam in partnership with Connecting Research to Development (CRD) announces the “*Guarantees to Women’s Access to Justice in the MENA Region*” conference in Beirut, Lebanon on 10 and 11 May 2018, to bring together civil society, legal and development practitioners, academia, and policy-makers. The purpose of this conference will be to exchange, explore and debate evidence and initiatives to date on tackling discriminatory laws, strengthening legal institutions, and shifting social norms for the achievement of gender equality in the MENA region.
We invite interested representatives from civil societies, governments, researchers, grass root activists, community organizations, and international agencies working on issues relating to women’s access to justice in the MENA region to submit an abstract and join this conference.
Presentations will be conducted based on key themes and corresponding topics of interest chosen based on current practices and gaps in the region and include:
Theme One – Accessible Justice Systems for Women in the Region. Topics will include:
a) Women’s barriers to accessing formal and informal justice systems.
b) Women’s access to justice and legal pluralism.
c) Women’s access to Justice during times of conflict: barriers and successes
Theme Two – Empowered Women Who Access Justice in the Region: Topics will include:
a) Women’s knowledge, attitudes, and practices regarding access to justice.
b) Successful approaches to women’s legal empowerment.
Theme Three – From gender sensitive to gender transformative approaches: ensuring social and institutional accountability. Topics to include:
a) Guidelines for creating gender-sensitive legal systems and social accountability.
b) Successful programs which have created gender transformative changes within the legal justice field.
c) Strengthening the collective struggles: The role of civil society and women’s rights organizations and networks.
Abstracts should not exceed 300 words and must be submitted by April 2, 2018 at a2jconference@crdconsultancy.org. Abstracts are accepted in Arabic and English, please find attached the abstract template to be used.

Abstract
The body of your abstract begins here. It should be typed single-spaced in 12 point type Arial. Please provide a structured abstract that should not exceed 300 words describing:
- the purpose
- the main materials and methods used
- the main results obtained
- the main conclusions of the work
Figures, Tables, and references can be included (All margins are 2,5cm). APA style to be adopted.
Abstracts should be submitted before April 2, 2018. The abstracts should be sent as an email attachment to a2jconference@crdconsultancy.org. Only .doc and .pdf are the acceptable file formats.
The term of presentation is planned to be 20 minutes including time for answering a few questions.
