  • Humanitarian Action Division (DAH)
  • Development Division (DAD)

MISSION CONTEXT

HI is managing a large humanitarian program from four different hubs (South, Centre, North and North-East), along four main pillars:

  1. Support to health partners (hospitals, care houses, psychosocial support centers, local NGOs) for the provision of comprehensive psychosocial support services (psychosocial support, psychosocial support and/or prosthetics and orthotics) through training, technical supervisions and donations of assistive devices and/or equipment

  2. Emergency response to the basic needs of vulnerable people affected by sudden crisis, through one-shot distributions of food baskets, household essential items and hygiene kits, and through the management of an adapted humanitarian coordination mechanism for emergency responses

  3. Education to the risks and effects caused by conventional weapons (including mines, explosive remnants of war and small arms light weapons) and urgent marking of hazardous areas

  4. Training and technical support to other humanitarian actors on the inclusion of persons with disabilities and other vulnerable persons in the humanitarian response (with a special focus on inclusive health and inclusive livelihoods)

The actual intervention is based on a mix of remote management of national teams, remote partnerships with local structures and organizations, and direct implementation programs.

DESCRIPTION OF THE POSITION

Operations from Central Syria hub are being carried out through remote management and mainly consist of the provision of technical and organizational support to HI strategic partners.

Under the direct responsibility of the Central Syria hub Area Coordinator, the Project Manager is responsible for the management of health, inclusion, mine action and livelihood activities in the intervention areas of central Syria. The Project Manager is expected to provide close support and guidance to partner’ teams for the quality implementation of activities and the compliance with HI and donor’s procedures.

PROFILE SOUGHT

Education:

  • Project management
  • Degree in social sciences, conflict studies or similar

Experiences:

  • at least 3 years of professional experience in humanitarian / emergency contexts or in protracted conflict / chronic crisis contexts
  • at least 2 years of experience in management of humanitarian projects
  • solid work experience in at least one core sector: mine action (risk education and/or NTS/marking), inclusion, PSS and/or livelihoods. Experience in more than one sector is a strong asset
  • previous experience with HI is a strong asset
  • experience in Syria, Iraq and/or in other Middle Eastern countries is a strong asset

Competencies:

  • strong level of analysis

  • good IT skills, knowledge of information management
  • arabic skills are a strong asset

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Starting date: 15/06/2018
  • Length of the contract: 12 months
  • Contract: salaried contract (from 2250€/month gross depending on experience)
  • Per-diem: 674€/month net
  • Insurances: medical health coverage, retirement planning, repatriation
  • Paid holiday: 25 days per year
  • R&R: 1 day/month
  • Status: couple or family possible
  • Accommodation: collective or individual, fully covered by Handicap International
