Lebanon: Hygiene and Health Assistant

PURPOSE OF POSITION

The purpose of the position is to ensure proper implementation of WASH activities at the field level and actively work to guarantee that the project beneficiaries’ water, sanitation, and hygiene needs are effectively being met.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

Implement Project activities

s Identify, assess, and respond to WASH (water, sanitation, and hygiene) needs among Syrian refugees’ families residing in tented settlements

s Supervise the delivery, distribution, and implementation of (WASH) interventions in tented settlements

s Supervise the delivery of the water trucking and dislodging services and report any failure to deliver or any potential issue or complaint related to the quality of the service.

s Collect and review the “means of verification” (MOV) sheets.

s Conduct household spot checks for service delivery quality.

s Follow up on the solid waste collection in the informal tented settlements and report any potential issue or failure to collect the solid waste.

s Conduct WASH needs assessments, WASH technical assessments and distributions.

s Document and report on conducted activities to ensure that needs assessed are being effectively responded to and that interventions are being documented.

s Educate people about key aspects of water and sanitation in a culturally appropriate manner.

s Ensure all work is carried out as per the community needs and project standards.

s Identify and assess public health and hygiene risks and needs.

Ensure Community Mobilization

s Forging relationships with people in the community in order to get the message across.

s Provide active and ongoing technical oversight to “WASH community mobilizers”.

s Monitor the WASH issues within target communities through the ‘WASH community mobilizers’, as well as directly through spot checks and assessments.

s Mobilize, motivate and encourage potential leaders to talk to their fellow community members about good water and sanitation practices.

s Develop trust, tolerance and co-operation among community members.

Assess WASH Risks at the field level

s Identify and assess public hygiene, water and sanitation risks and needs

s Report areas of concern to the WASH (Water and Sanitation Hygiene) Operations Officer

Perform Networking

s Collaborate with a number of other agencies, including local authorities and international aid workers during the implementation of WASH programs.

Handle Reporting

s Provide daily and weekly reports to WASH Operations Officers on project progress.

s Document and share lessons learned with the WASH Operations Officers, local community members, and local stakeholders.

Perform other duties as required

s Attend and participate in capacity building trainings locally and internationally

s Attend and participate in WVL’s spiritual nurture and other organizational events

s Responsible of own security and actively contribute to a positive security culture

s Abide by the security policies and procedures and report any incidents or breaches to line manager and / or security manager.

s Perform other duties as assigned by the Line Manager

s Ability to spend 80% of job in the field

s Ability to review and write reports and manage data effectively

s Has strong knowledge of core principles of Children Rights, Participation, Do No Harm, as well as Children in Emergencies minimum standards.

s Has strong knowledge about WASH distribution

s Previous experience in a similar position

s Familiar with the Syrian crisis and Informal tented settlements (ITS) environment

s Ability to draft daily and weekly reports

s Good communication skills

s Experience in conducting rapid needs assessments

s Experience in attending and supervising items distributions

s Good communication skills

s Team work oriented

s 80% field work, 20% office work

s Position requires availability and willingness to work outside regular office hours occasionally.

s Position requires willingness and ability to continue to function during a crisis situation, including during a World Vision response to a manmade or natural disaster.
