DRC is welcoming applications for three demanding and professionally rewarding trainee positions in Myanmar, namely within Camp Management in Rakhine State, Protection in Kachin State and Logistics primarily in Rakhine State.
Who we are?
The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) has provided humanitarian assistance to people in need in Myanmar since 2009. DRC is currently engaged in humanitarian response in Rakhine, Kachin, and Kayah States in the West, East, and South-East of the country respectively.
In Rakhine, waves of inter-communal violence swept through in 2012, forcing approximately 140,000 persons to flee their homes and take refuge in IDP camps spread across the state. DRC activities target these IDPs, surrounding communities and other local vulnerable population groups including those in locations prone to natural disasters. DRC implements a multi-sector response, including CCCM, Child Protection, Livelihoods, Protection, and WASH across several townships.
In Kachin, DRC has been operational since 2012 responding to the humanitarian suffering and large scale displacement. DRC's activities include shelter, livelihoods, protection incl. child protection, anti-trafficking, Mine Risk Education (MRE), Victims Assistance (VA) and Community-Driven Safety, Protection and Development (CDSPD).
Duties and Responsibilities
The Trainees will be working under supervision of experienced expatriate line managers. The specific roles for each traineeship will naturally differ but all be designed to stimulate professional progression and hands-on humanitarian experience.
Core tasks for the Logistics Trainee will include:
- Working with staff on ensuring compliance with procedures as outlined in DRC's Operations Handbook
- Maintaining and improving transparent documents handling systems and train staff on a day-to-day basis
- Engage in other operational tasks (finance, human resources, administration) to gain wider practical experience.
Core tasks for the Protection Trainee will include:
- Taking a hands-on role in implementing activities and supporting national staff in implementation.
- Contributing to databases, advocacy materials, survey, regular protection reports and other tasks required to support protection programming.
- Engaging in case management and the provision of support to vulnerable population groups.
Core tasks for the Camp Management Trainee will include:
- Regular presence in camps for internally displaced persons and proactively engaging to enhance the dignity of camp residents.
- Working with staff to support program operations.
- Contributing to Camp Fact Sheets and data collection/publication in general to continually improve programmes.
About you
To be successful in the position you should meet the following requirements:
- University degree / Studies in relevant field
- Demonstrated intercultural sensitivity and motivation
- Systematic mind-set and capability of implementing changes
- Experience in training and capacity building
- Experience of working as part of team, past team leadership an advantage.
- Experience of data management; databases and M&E tools desirable
- Experience with NGOs is a benefit
- Fluency in English
- Ability to live and work in an unstable, insecure environment.
We offer
DRC will offer the successful applicant a contract for 6 months, renewable dependent on funding and performance. Envisaged start date is November 2015/January 2016.
