Duties and Responsibilities:
Under the direct supervision of Programme Officer, and the overall supervision of Head of Sub-Office in Sittwe, Programme Assistant will be responsible for the following duties:
• Serve as focal point for all VAM activities in Sub-Office area (including technical management food security monitoring system);
• Serve as focal point for School Feeding activities (including identifying food insecure townships;
• Assist with beneficiary targeting and community profiling to ensure effective programming; provide VAM perspective as Sub-Office Project Review Committee;
• Assist with Monthly Reports, authoring sections related to the current food security situation;
• Train Sub-Office staff as well as WFP implementing partners and other assessment or food security monitoring partners on food security analysis, assessment activities and food security monitoring;
• Manage all assessment activity in Sub-Office area, assisting the VAM officer in design and implementation of baseline and emergency surveys;
• Manage market price monitoring system;
• Critically analyze all emerging food security information from Sub-Office to ensure that local context is adequately captured;
• Perform data analysis using SPSS and efficiently work on a wide variety of databases;
• Review and analyze secondary data and literature on food security;
• Ensure effective coordination at local levels with food security assessment and monitoring partners; and
• Perform other related duties as required by supervisor.
Qualification
Education:
Minimum secondary school education, preferably supplemented by courses in a field related to sociology, economics, agriculture, geography, nutrition, rural development and or similar relevant field.
Desired Experiences for Entry into the Role:
Has facilitated communication with technical teams (ie. Nutrition, VAM etc..). Has contributed to
implementation of programmes. Has contributed to implementation of programmes. Has observed
or assisted with policy discussion.
Knowledge:
Knowledge of Computer word/data processing software (Word, Excel). Knowledge of specialized
software; for statistical analysis (such as SPSS, Stata, MS Access, dbase, etc.)
Language:
Fluency in both oral and written in English and Myanmar.
Critical Success Factors:
Ability to maintain accurate and precise records and to interpret and analyse a variety of data and resolve discrepancies. Ability to work accurately and systematically; to identify and resolve data discrepancies and operational problems. Ability to perform detailed work and to handle a large volume of work quickly and accurately under time constraints. Courtesy, tact and the ability to work effectively with people of different national and cultural backgrounds.
Desired skills:
Training, and/or experience in using software related to the area of work such as geographic information systems (GIS) and statistical analysis software. Familiarity with quantitative and qualitative survey techniques.
